16 November. First late letter

16 November. First late letter

IMG_5848_HDRMy beautiful Byron.

Well. I missed our Thursday visit.

First time I missed a letter in three years. I was on an Island researching Monkeys and Sloths. And they had NO INTERNET to allow me to connect my laptop to this page.
I have just arrived back in Florida and checked into a Hotel that has wi fi and here’s my first opportunity to write.

Sorry if you logged on to the page yesterday expecting to see my letter. (Sad face emoji.)

The first picture is Caesar.
He is a 7 yo Capuchin monkey. He lives with his family of 7 in Roatan. An Island of the Honduras. I spent an afternoon with them, interacting and taking photos. They are smart creatures. And very social. Love to play. And they pick pockets. And they steal women’s ear rings.
Amazing. They seem joyful all the time.

IMG_5820_HDRI also met a three toed Sloth called Flash. That’s irony because he sure ain’t no Flash. Sloths  move so slowly its astonishing. They have very small brains and somewhat limited function. But they are super cuddly.

The majority of Sloth deaths in the wild not caused by predators, are caused by them climbing and grabbing onto one arm thinking it is a branch. Then they plummet to their death from the high branches where they live and feed.
That is called black humor. It’s funny in a tragic kind of stupid way.
They sure are cuddly though. And they can rotate their necks all the way round. There is an extra vertebra in there to assist them eat more effectively while hanging from branches by rotating their necks all the way round. Amazing nature.
